Ribble Valley Cross Country Finals...
Last October, four Yr. 5/6 pupils battled through the quagmire at Wilsons Park, Claytonle-Moors last October, finishing amongst the top 25 competitors in the district. They went on to represent the Ribble Valley in the Cross Country finals at Whitton Park on 14th June.
The finals were a total contrast to the qualifier, with weeks of dry weather resulting in hard ground and it was a breezy, sunny day! The top 25 runners from five districts were competing and each race was 2.1 km on grass and turf. First up were the girls with excellent performances, followed by the boys, with equally fine performances.
Both 'B' (3rd/25) and 'A' (4th/25) finished amongst the top six Ribble Valley runners (whose scores counted in the team competition). 'A' gained a first gold medal as a member of the winning Ribble Valley girls’ team and both 'B' and 'A' earned gold medals when the Ribble Valley team was also declared the overall winner of the combined event. This was a fabulous result for the Ribble Valley runners - beating both Blackburn and Burnley - and it was great for the Gisburn pupils to play their part in the district’s success. Congratulations and a big well done to all who competed!
