Yrs. 5 & 6 Girls' Football Competition - May 2018...
Our excited Gisburn Year 5/6 Girls’ Football Team took to the field for the first time at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School. With little to no previous match experience, the team was selected willing girls, who showed an interest in playing some competitive football matches. All the girls showed that they were fully capable footballers; from the first whistle, all the girls got stuck into the game.
In their first game, they took on Read Primary School and quickly established themselves as the dominant team. They attacked with strikes, keeping Read’s goalkeeper busy as they took plenty of shots but could not find the back of the net.
Onto their next game and Gisburn kicked off and attacked down the right wing - a shot by 'S' was blocked and went out for a throw deep in to the oppositions half. A long throw from 'G' landed in the box and 'S' managed to spin and volley the ball off the cross bar and into the goal. Gisburn continued to keep the pressure on throughout the match, which resulted in scoring another goal and winning the match 2-0.
As the tournament progressed, Gisburn continued in the same fashion of attacking football. They were the stronger side in each of their matches but could not convert their relentless pressure into goals. Recording two more draws and a narrow loss.
Thank you to all of the players who were involved as it was an incredible team performance and the parents’ support only enhanced the moral of the team.
