Rare samples of moon rock, lunar dust and meteorites landed at Gisburn School for a week’s visit. Following on from our very successful Mission X project all the children were able to handle and study the rocks looking at the differences in the materials they are made from. When we were holding the meteorites, it was very hard to imagine that they had travelled millions of miles before falling on our planet.
The lunar samples, provided by the UK’s Science and Technology Facilities Council were collected during NASA’s manned space missions in the 60’s and 70’s.
