A visit from Historian & World War 1 Memorabilia Collector

As part of History and English work on researching World War 1 (WW1), ‘Bill Smith’, a local historian and WW1 memorabilia collector provided the children with a unique and dynamic educational experience of what war was like in the trenches for three local men that fought in Lord Kitchener’s army. These brave soldiers appear on our local cenotaph and Bill has traced their stories throughout WW1.

It was a very hands on day and the children enjoyed joining the army, getting dressed up in a real WW1 uniform and handling all of the items in Bill’s collection. Bill also brought a friend who boasts one of the largest collections of German war artefacts. Together, these experts in the field of WW1 gave an incredible incite to the Great War!
